By the time prospects get in front of you, they pretty much know what they want... but if your business didn't stand out during the research phases, you're not even in the running for the sale.

The art of marketing is being in front of prospects during those research phases with a message that makes your business one chosen finalists. This means having the right message, for the right audience, in the right place, at the right time.

So how do your prospects find out about you? Do they need to see a sign for your service when they pass you on the street? Or do they find you through primarily through referral? If so, from whom? Or do they research you on the internet?... or maybe the newspaper.

Before you can answer that, you need a clear picture of who your prospect is. In today's world, your website will be the second stop in their research. But they won't find that unless they found about you some way during their initial research.
